Welcome to my blog. I'm Jill, a Hairstylist in Eugene, Oregon. I would like to provide a forum to discuss current trends in hair, skin, and fashion in Oregon. Sosoregon stands for "Sense of Style Oregon". We spend a lot of time reading and looking at fashion magazines that show fashion in New York and L.A. Now, let's talk about what's going on in Oregon. Enjoy!

Color Extensions and Feathers!
If you haven't noticed already, a lot of people are wearing bright colored extensions, and feathers in their hair! Right now, aside from the Jennifer Aniston haircut, these feathers and extensions are the most common request in my chair! They're both fun, easy, inexpensive, and the best part is, they can are heat resistant and you can wash them (just like your hair). It's a fun way to spice up your current look. I have five feathers in my hair right now. I have three natural colored feathers, one white colored, and one purple feather all in my hair and LOVE them. Typically, I'm not into "following" others, or really ultra trendy styles. But, here's the best part. While the feathers, are trendy, you can create a "one of a kind" look with these feathers and hair extensions that nobody else can have. Come in today to create your own take on the current trend! Here's a link to the "BABE" company (the products I use). http://www.babethings.com/index.php?p=home They have really cute packaging and are definitely a leader in the industry.

"Instyle" magazine's hottest spring haircuts
These are the hottest haircuts for spring according to "Instyle" magazine. I already done a few cuts like these this week. Obviously the Jennifer Aniston is always popular.
Thursday and Friday this week nearly every client I had came in and did something fun and different. Someone in the salon called one of the cuts I did, "Sassy and professional". My client loved that.
Check them out.. and maybe try something new for Spring!

2011 Spring Hair
Here are a few different popular hairstyle trends this Spring. The "Snookie poof" is still popular at all different heights. Volume and height is a trend. The sleek, brushed back pony tail without a part is in. "Extreme side parts" are really in this season. Parting your hair way to the right, or way over to the left is definitely in style. And, the small front braid in the bang area is coming back again this Spring. Finally, the last two looks are "very sleek, shiny ponys," and "very lose and messy big curls, or waves". Creating messy waves and adding some "bed head hair" is in. This reminds me of when I worked for Abercrombie and Fitch. We would open a bran new pair of jeans, or pants, and be asked to first "steam the jeans," then we were to wrinkle them to make them look worn.. Too funny.. Try a new style this season!

Miss Lane County 2011
These are this year's Miss Lane County title holders. I was backstage doing their hair throughout the show.. And, I had so much fun! These girls, along with the other contestants are gorgeous and it was so much fun doing their hair!
Spring
March 20th, 2011 was actually the first day of Spring, or the date of the vernal equinox. However, us Oregonians know that.. We don't usually see spring for a while after this date. But, Spring is here and good weather is here to come.
So, take some of those winter clothes to Buffalo Exchange, goodwill, or put them away until next year. My favorite store is somewhat new to the area. It's called, "Flipside Apparel Exchange". And, it's located at 1968 Marcola Road, Springfield. It's in the Mohawk shopping center near Big Town hero and Sallys Beauty Supply. I love this store because they tend to take more clothes, and whatever they do not buy, they will donate the clothes for you. I should also mention that they tend to only take clothes that are in season. Right now they're most likely wanting more Spring clothes.
Put the winter clothes away and bring out the Spring clothes! Because spring weather is coming soon. I love this time of year!

Miss Lane County 2011
Last night I went behind the scenes of the Miss Lane County competition. It was the first time I had ever been to a competition of this nature. And, I must say I was very happy to see how wonderful these girls are in general, and to one another.
I was the Hairstylist for the event. It was my job to help girls get their hair ready from start to finish, or to simply add the finishing touches on their already styled hair. The girls were extremely polite, respectful, and sincere. They patiently waited for their turn, and respected the time I gave each girl.
What I just loved and appreciated so much is how the girls treated one another. Each girl would help another girl if they needed anything! Girls were helping each other steam their dresses, helping each other get in to the dresses, fixing each others hair, and makeup, etc. You name it, they were there for one another.
All of these years I had imagined the behind the scenes of a pageant being viciously competitive. I pictured girls being manipulative, and definitely not helping each other with anything. This is not the case with these Oregon girls.. They are kind and supportive of one another.. They were true ladies, and I was proud to have them representing our state.
The best part of the night and the most repeated quote, "I need more butt spray". I obviously, had never heard of butt spray. This unique substance is commonly used to keep your swim suit in place during the pageant so that a contestant walks down the runway with everything staying in place.
When I first got to the pageant, I had been introduced to Renee, the Makeup Artist. Ironically Renee and I have known each other for years. We were friends in college, and reconnected at this event. We just laughed all night about things like "butt spray". We definitely enjoyed ourselves and I would love to continue doing things like this in the future
