Last night I went behind the scenes of the Miss Lane County competition. It was the first time I had ever been to a competition of this nature. And, I must say I was very happy to see how wonderful these girls are in general, and to one another.
I was the Hairstylist for the event. It was my job to help girls get their hair ready from start to finish, or to simply add the finishing touches on their already styled hair. The girls were extremely polite, respectful, and sincere. They patiently waited for their turn, and respected the time I gave each girl.
What I just loved and appreciated so much is how the girls treated one another. Each girl would help another girl if they needed anything! Girls were helping each other steam their dresses, helping each other get in to the dresses, fixing each others hair, and makeup, etc. You name it, they were there for one another.
All of these years I had imagined the behind the scenes of a pageant being viciously competitive. I pictured girls being manipulative, and definitely not helping each other with anything. This is not the case with these Oregon girls.. They are kind and supportive of one another.. They were true ladies, and I was proud to have them representing our state.
The best part of the night and the most repeated quote, "I need more butt spray". I obviously, had never heard of butt spray. This unique substance is commonly used to keep your swim suit in place during the pageant so that a contestant walks down the runway with everything staying in place.
When I first got to the pageant, I had been introduced to Renee, the Makeup Artist. Ironically Renee and I have known each other for years. We were friends in college, and reconnected at this event. We just laughed all night about things like "butt spray". We definitely enjoyed ourselves and I would love to continue doing things like this in the future
